The urban transformation of Berat is continuing in all its neighbourhoods, streets, and squares of the city. A group of renowned projects are being implemented, such as the rehabilitation of the main square, the parking facility, facades, bridges and the green market. These infrastructure projects are not simply creating functional spaces, but also attractive ones too, for the many citizens and tourists who visit Berat, who during 2023 marked the figure of 800 thousand visitors.
Prime Minister Edi Rama was in Berat today where he inspected some of the construction sites set up in different areas of the city.
The green market is one of the projects, which is being built with an area of 13 thousand square meters, positioned next to the national road that connects the entrance of the city with the centre. The market is conceived as an open structure dedicated to the agricultural products of 100 farmers planned to be organized in this marked, collecting the agricultural products of 35 villages.
“We are here in the newest market of the city, where we expect to have 120 stalls installed for various farmers. With the realization of this project, we will improve their conditions, thus making it easier for them to use this facility for small scale trade, thus helping all the residents of the area too. The space will have its dedicated parking spaces for those who will operate here. We think that this is an added asset for tourism itself, especially with the extraordinary products that the city of Berat has to offer. The tourists who visit Berat, and there are already hundreds and thousands of them, – about 800 thousand only for the year 2023, – will have the opportunity to touch the products in this area, where the whole region is represented with its bio products. It is a necessary asset to take the next level in integrating the various sectors with each other.” – explained Mayor Ervin Demo.
The next stop of Prime Minister Rama was in the main square of Berat, which is being reconstructed, along with the facades of the buildings, and the pedestrian walk, ensuring a radical transformation of the centre of Berat.
“We are here in the main square of Berat, which is actually above the parking lot. The parking space will accommodate around 200 vehicles, which is a considerable capacity. The facades are already reconstructed, and we aim for the project to achieve the entire reconstruction of the city centre’s landscape. This is a radical transformation in the centre of Berat.” – said the Demo Mayor, while stating that these added elements of infrastructure have preserved their identity.
“The Antipatrea street has returned to its identity because it was all constructed of stone, as it was in fact almost 80 years ago This is the rebirth of Berat, unimaginable a few years ago. Today only in the historical area of the city, in the museum centre, Mangalem, Gorica and Kala there are more than 35 hostels being built.” – he detailed while emphasizing that such public investments are being equally followed by private ones, and the synergy towards the common good is extraordinary.
